Art and I have danced around each other a bit! I loved creating whilst at school, but having been a teacher myself for nearly a decade, the time to daub was limited. In recent years, since leaving teaching, I’ve enjoyed my own artistic renaissance! and I now dabble in a variety of media, from ink drawings to oil paintings. My themes vary, but as an ex-History teacher I’m drawn to events and themes from the past, though there’s also no greater joy than trying to capture the scale and ancientness of the sea and coastline. My ultimate goal is to capture light and shadow; I revel in studying how light falls and the contrasts it creates. Julie’s husband works at Hamilton.
