Conchi Yellon was born in Catalan Spain and educated in France before settling in London. She came to sculpture after a career teaching language – and it soon became a passion that overtook her life. She started with classical styles but started to explore different techniques, materials and subjects, being drawn to more contemporary sculpture. In most of her work, one can still see the influence of classical art. She started with modelling clay but went on to use a variety of materials such as cement fondue, wax, plaster, stone and wood – materials which allowed her to develop cleaner, simpler lines. Conchi is inspired by her surroundings, by natural and organic shapes in nature and the curvatures of the human form.
