I was a name at Lloyd’s. I am a Dorset farmer, however have always enjoyed creating objects and images and managed to gain a BTEC at Arts University Bournemouth. At school I was told by my teacher, ceramicist Gordon Baldwin, that I had no feel for clay. It took lockdown for me gain the courage to try again. The bowls I make are hand built using slabs of clay pressed into kitchen bowls covered by clingfilm, while still wet, I etch shapes into the bowl and decorate using glazes and oxides. There is, I hope, an interesting relationship between the marks made in the construction method and marks I put on the surface. The colours and the random way that the glazes interact and run together is rather pleasing.
