Rosanna Webb
I’m a classical portrait artist specialising in the ‘sight-size’ method, which I’ve refined during training at Charles H. Cecil Studios. My sister who works for Chaucer, suggested I look into exhibiting with the Lloyd’s art group.
Each portrait is painted entirely from life under natural light. I begin with a spirited orchestration of fabric, props and pose, refined through close observation of tone and composition. Through this considered study, I seek to capture not only the sitter’s likeness, but also their inner presence and character. My portraits are rooted in the enduring traditions of masters such as Sargent, Lawrence and Velázquez, whose command of form and light continues to inform my work.
Painting from life remains integral to my practice and in an age of artificial intelligence and diminishing in-person interactions, the immediacy of observing directly what is in front of us has become increasingly profound..
