Alain Speed

Alain is an amateur artist whose work depicts people and places in London, and simple still-life. Observation is the key, any narrative which the paintings might convey are the viewers own, sometimes prompted by the title of the piece.
By day Alain works for a leading architectural practice in London as Technical Coordinator. He works within a creative setting in large teams albeit on the delivery side. Painting offers a different creative outlet, working autonomously with the primary material.
In 2015 Alain won an open air painting competition in London called Pintar Rapido, selected from about 400 entries, which involved pitching up on the King's Road and painting the buildings and shoppers. An article about this can be found in the June 2016 issue of Artists and Illustrators magazine. In 2017 Alain took part in the Sky Arts portrait artist of the year and for three years has donated a painting for the prestigious Article 25 charity auction, to raise funds for third world architectural projects, which each year focuses on a different part of London.
Over the last few years, Alain has exhibited regularly at the Sydenham and Forest Hill art festivals.
