Observational drawings, made on the spot, form the basis of all John’s work. He particularly enjoys drawing views of buildings and people or making quick sketches from life in The Royal Academy Life room . His studio in Corfe Castle is used for landscapes in oils and watercolours and is regularly open for Dorset Art Weeks and Purbeck Art weeks.
It has taken him 10 years to master the technique of etching on copper, which he learnt at The Princes Drawing School. He regularly shows in local and London Galleries, including Chelsea Art Society, the crypt of St. Paul’s Cathedral, the Courtauld Gallery and the Mall Gallery. He is a Member of the Armed Forces Art Society and a Freeman of the Painter Stainers’ Company, exhibiting in Painters’ Hall. John’s work is represented in several public collections, including the Royal College of Physicians, Tower Bridge Exhibition, The Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn, The Honourable Society of Middle Temple, the Worshipful Company of Skinners’ and The Charterhouse. He welcomes commissions and ides for new subjects for drawing, etchings and watercolours.
