Bill’s style is quick and lively whether working in pen, watercolour or oils. Favourite subjects are the streets of London but, whilst many of Bill's paintings are urban, they are definitely not gritty. This is a city at ease with itself, proud of its history, and offering a fascinating backdrop to modern café lifestyles. Bill aims, through his pictures, to capture the movement and light of London. Paintings are completed on location, usually in watercolour emphasised with flicks of a dip pen, creating a unique record of place and time. Recent work has included a series of oil portraits.
Bill has exhibited at the Barbican, Mall Galleries, St John’s Smith Square, Prince’s Drawing School, Burgh House Hampstead, St Martin in the Fields, Lloyd’s of London and at the Yale Summer School in USA. Bill trained at the City Lit, Prince’s Drawing School, Mary Ward Centre and at the Yale Summer School of Art. His work is owned and enjoyed in the UK, the USA, Australia, Japan and he has undertaken many commissions. |
